Cambodia Gambling Halls
August 3rd, 2024 by Hassan

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino gaming is not legal. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that features numerous amenities aside from the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
